Peterborough Branch AGM, 21 January 2023 at St John the Baptist Church, Barnack

Dear all, a Happy New Year to everyone.

A reminder that I need to know if you plan to attend the Peterborough Branch AGM by Saturday 14 January please, through this link – Branch Events Organiser. Thank you to all those who have already responded confirming attendance, or given their apologies.

The agenda for the AGM and the Minutes of the 2022 meeting can be found on https://petbells.org.uk/downloads/

In addition, there are now three additional documents on the download. These are documents that the Guild Executive would appreciate the opportunity to raise at the AGM, so you may want to read them before the meeting. They will also feature as topics for branch committee meetings and will be further discussed at the Guild’s GMC meeting in March.

The Guild appreciates that some branches are struggling and believes that it would be better to take a Guild wide approach, rather than deal with the same issue in different branches over a longer timeframe. This is not going to be a quick process and the Guild Executive anticipates that there will be lots of view and opinions across the different branches. This is just the start of the discussion process.

The proposed programme is as follows:

14.00 Ringing

14.45 Service

15.30 AGM followed by Tea

16.30 Ringing until 17.30

There will be a number of vacancies on the Branch Committee for 2023, so if you are interested in being nominated, please let me know through this link – Branch Events Organiser.

Funerals for Ian Burroughs and Tony Evans

It is very sad to hear of the deaths of Ian Burroughs and Tony Evans, two long standing ringers in the Peterborough Branch, and I thought ringers might want to know the arrangements for their funerals

Many people will have known Ian as the Tower Captain at Barnack, and will have rung with him in the past. His funeral is at 1pm on Tuesday 11 October at Barnack. Bells will be rung after the service.

Tony was a key member of the band at Castor for many years, and he was the instigator of a teaching facility at Castor, that then became the Castor Ringing School. His funeral is at Castor on Monday 17 October at 2.45pm. Bells will be rung by the Castor band.

As the current Head Tutor of the School, I propose to ring one or more Quarter Peals in Tony’s memory, comprising ringers who were taught to ring by Tony. If you are interested in joining us, please will you let me know through the following link, https://petbells.org.uk/contact/events-organiser/ and I will ensure that all those who want to are included in any ringing we organise.

Best wishes,

Hilary Hardie
