Taylors bell foundry open day September 14th

Taylor’s bell foundry is taking part in the annual Heritage open day this year, opening its doors on Saturday 14th September between 10:30 & 2:30 pm. See this link for more information: https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/loughborough-bellfoundry-open-day

The Loughborough bellfoundry Trust also have a Facebook page with the same information, if that’s easier for you to access. https://www.facebook.com/events/2390375877872164/

Also in Loughborough, the Carillon tower is open on the same day. A walk between the Tower and the bell foundry is planned for 1pm. Victorian fancy dress is encouraged. We’d like photos if anyone does go in fancy dress. https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/carillon-tower

Plain Bob Minor Workshop

Castor Ringing School will be running a Plain Bob Minor Workshop in conjunction with the Peterborough Branch on Saturday 5th October.  The Workshop is aimed at ringers who are able to ring at least a plain course of Plain Bob Doubles inside unaided and would like to learn how to move on to Plain Bob Minor.  It will also be suitable for those who have tried ringing Plain Bob Minor but would like to brush up on the theory and gain some practical experience within an experienced band.

The Workshop will begin with a Theory Session at Castor in the morning for all participants and be followed by Practical Sessions at one or more Towers.  The timing of the sessions will depend upon the number of participants: if there is a small number, both Theory and Practical Sessions will take place in the morning but, if there is a large number, the Practical Sessions will be in the afternoon.

If you would like to take part in this Workshop please apply by 20th September by clicking here and, in your message, give the following information:

Name:

Tower:

Can you ring a course of Plain Bob Doubles inside unaided?   Yes/No

As far as Plain Bob Minor is concerned would you describe yourself as a Beginner or an Improver.  Please feel free to give additional information to clarify this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yesterday’s tour

It was lovely to see so many of you on the tour yesterday. We had a brilliant day out and I feel a few thankyous are due:

To Hilary for organising the entire day, from booking churches and lunch to organising the ringing. She worked really hard and must have been very tired by the end of the day (the rest of us certainly were).

To Barrowden, Uppingham, Braunston, Oakham, Greetham and Great Casterton churches for the warm welcome we received in each place and the opportunity to ring their bells.

To the experienced and skillful ringers who came along and although there were enough of them to allow them to have some  ringing for themselves they also spent a great deal of time supporting and encouraging the less experienced. Without their greatly valued input the tour could not have been such a success and we all appreciated them very much.

We enjoyed travelling through some very beautiful countryside and it was heartening too to visit churches that were so well kept and with such pristine ringing rooms and bells in such good order. The renovations at Barrowden are spectacular and well worth a visit.

We were joined along the way by several visitors: a tourist in Uppingham, some local ringers, and most surprisingly by Jim Lilley who made a very lengthy journey by train from Shoreham on Sea to come and ring with us, notching up his 3,400th tower at our final ring of the day in Great Casterton! Jim has been ringing since 1944 and after injuring his shoulder 20 years ago he rings with one hand only. It was amazing to watch his relaxed and skilled ringing with one hand, the other placed nonchalantly in his pocket. Thank you for joining us Jim, it was pleasure to meet you.

Finally thank you to all who joined the tour and made the day such an enjoyable day out. It was  very good to see many of the newer ringers in the Branch come along and tackle ringing new bells with confidence and competence and  without you all and your enthusiasm the Branch would have less chance of a bright future.

THANKYOU

Oundle wedding 3rd August 13.30 hrs

I am a few ringers short for this wedding (there are 8 bells but so far I only have 4 ringers).  You would need to be at the tower by 13.00 hrs to ring up and ring before the wedding.

Please let me know if you can help.  Many thanks in advance.
